The Dead Tongues
Ryan Gustafson, creator of the band The Dead Tongues, is an Asheville-based folk singer/songwriter who draws influence from old-time fiddle music as well as new-age gritty Americana music. His songs are instrumentally intricate with the abundance of guitar, fiddle, and harmonica. When discussing his most recent single, “Road to Heaven,” Gustafson said that he recorded the song in a 9’x12’ cabin in Asheville, NC that he also currently calls home. He admits that he wrote most of this song five years ago, and has recorded it at least four times, but it always felt unfinished. Finally one day in 2018 he sat down for about ten minutes and believes that was the moment the song truly spoke to him. And then the world finally got to hear that recorded version at the beginning of 2019.
